Prof. Dr. Nikom Suvonvorn <ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร. นิคม สุวรรณวร> is currently a lecturer at Department of Computer Engineering (CoE), and the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies at Faculty of Engineering (ENG), Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hatyai, Thailand.  In 2006, He received a PhD in computer science from l’Université de Paris Sud (XI), Orsay, France. In 2003, He obtained a DEA (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies), Master’s degree on Electronic System and Information Processing (SETI), from l’Institute d’Electronique Fondamontale (IEF) at l’Université de Paris Sud (XI). In the same year, He also got the Master’s Degree on Computer Engineering from Ecole Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Electricité (ESME)-Sudria engineering school at Paris. 

His research concerns the computer vision, image processing, and its related applications as following:

  • Computer Vision and Image Processing, applied to Surveillance and Monitoring System
    • Motion/object detection, tracking, and recognition
    • Abnormal event prediction and detection
    • Privacy issues, key frame extraction
  • Real-time Multimedia Framework, applied for Surveillance and Monitoring System
    • Video/Audio Processing
    • Distributed/Parallel System (multi-cores/multi-processors)
    • Adaptive/Evolutionary System
  • Large-Scale Software Development 
    • Software Design and Management
  • Geographic Information System Map Renderer
    • 2D/3D Map Generator/Renderer
    • Image Analysis for Remote Sensing

His current projects:

  • Vision-based Human Behavior Analysis for Elderly Monitoring System
  • Thai License Plate Recognition System for Security and Surveillance Applications
